A scholarship fund in Rhode Island.
Since we started the HeroBracelets.org project, we've been contacted by a lot of people wanting to resell HeroBracelets. One guy even wanted to buy a large quantity to sell on ebay.
We've always refused these kinds of requests. We didn't think it was a respectful approach.
And we've seen a lot of Web sites pop up recently offering all sorts of "Soldier Bracelets." One site even claimed to send money to the same fund we do, but the folks at the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund had never heard of them. I guess some of that is to be expected and there isn't much you can do about it.
But we talked today to a gentleman in Rhode Island named Don Mattera that is quietly doing something we totally agree with.
He owns a restaurant in East Matunuck, R.I. called The Lido Deck and he's been ordering and selling HeroBracelets there for the last year. He has been adding a couple dollars to each one and putting the money aside for a scholarship fund for the children of the nine Rhode Island military personnel that have lost their lives in the war.
We were pretty touched by his efforts. He hadn't asked anything from us or anyone. He just decided it was something he could do for some children he would probably never meet.
It's a small thing he's done, but we're happy to see he's done
